Three ways community service adds value to a company
Is your company having trouble getting involved in your local community? Maybe you have a surplus of good intentions but aren't sure how it will help your business? Well, there are many reasons beyond a samaritan impulse to get your company more involved.
First of all, community service can help you develop your employees personally and professionally. A study by the University of Georgia showed that community service actually increased job performance by helping them put meaning into what they do.
Additionally being active in a community can help a company build its brand. When prospective customers or employees look at companies they want to see that it cares about something more than the bottom line. If your company demonstrates a commitment to the area around them it shows the company is committed to improving the lives of both its employees (who are part of the local community) and society at large.
By increasing employee volunteerism you will also increase communication at your company. Employees can frequently get stuck in their communication channels and volunteering opportunities can be a way for them to make connections with employees in different parts of the company.
One company exec I talked to said that when they made community service a company priority there was a noticeable uptick in moral and excitement around the office.
